"A vision without a plan is just a hallucination!"

Carmichael and I have been on a "get our s#!t together" rampage. We have gotten rid of so much crap it's amazing. I really do think that clutter reproduces. That is going to be the next scientific discovery!!!
We have been organizing as much as we can for the last few weeks and this week is our fridge and deep freezer's turn to be worked on. After a half hour on the kitchen floor, pad and pen in hand and measuring tape on the side, we have determined that fridge baskets would be best for us. Because I get so gong-ho about projects and starting them NOW, we went on a hunt that night, throwing on whatever seemed to match--well...that was just me because Carmichael doesn't leave the front porch without being coordinated--so that we could make it to one store before it closed for the night.
We took our shopping list and measurements and scoured the organization and craft aisles of two stores before settling on two colorful baskets for snacks, etc and two seagrass baskets for the often used condiments. Now we are on to buying or making dividers for our deep freezer. That should be fun, right?
Money is too tight to be even a little wasteful, so we are armed with menu making tools, lists, dry erase calendars, coupon skills, etc so that we can maximize our budget each month. It was really sad before. Because we couldn't find something, we would have to re-buy it in the meantime just to find two others of that item in our storage room later in the month. Or we would get to the bottom of the freezer to see that we had ground beef in there the whole time. Quite ridiculous.

or master your time and master your life." ---Alan Lakein
Something else that we worked hard on was a realistic family schedule. It is now clear, concise, and fits our lives quite well though I have been resistant to making sure I am ready to go so early in the mornings after not being able to sleep all night! We also made a list of things that we had to accomplish and wanted to accomplish in the next couple years and prioritized them. The top four became our family goals for the next two years.
In making goals, it was like a huge weight was taken off of my back by creating a path of purpose while we are in this current financial and health situation. It is so freeing to look at requests, opportunities, and situations and to analyze them against our goals. There is a release of stress when everything that comes across your plate stops being something to consider. Now, when presented with something, I can simply and confidently say that "that's not a goal of mine at this time" and move on GUILT FREE.
A new, realistic, and easy family schedule: CheckFamily goals for the next two years planned and written out: Check
The relief from stress because of poor planning and wasted time: Double checkKnowing where we are headed as a family with some stability: Invaluable
So that makes three things that will soon be uncluttered: 1. house 2. mind 3. expectations.
It's a beautiful thing indeed!
